Rann Utsav is a cultural and festive celebration in the Kutch district of Gujarat. It showcases the region's vibrant culture, traditions, handicrafts, music, and dance.

Where is the Rann Utsav tent city located?

The tent city is set up near the village of Dhordo, which is close to the mesmerising White Desert, popularly known as Rann of Kutch.

What is included in the package?

Packages typically include To/fro from Bhuj Railway Station/ Airport on designated timings, accommodation, meals, guided tours, cultural programs, and access to festival events.

Transportation

How can I reach the Rann Utsav tent city?

You can reach the tent city by road, train, or air. The nearest airport is Bhuj Airport, and from there, you can hire a taxi or use our shuttle services. The nearest Railway Station is Bhuj. You can reach there as well. The Rann Utsav Tent City’s pick-up/ drop facility is available at Bhuj Railway Station and Airport at designated times. You can witness traditional Kutchi music, dance performances, and various other cultural events during your stay.

Are guided tours to nearby attractions included?

Yes, the package includes guided tours to attractions like the White Rann of Kutch, Kalo Dungar, Mandvi Beach, Vijay Vilas Palace, Dholavira, Smriti Van, Shyamji Krishna Varma Memorial, and local villages depending on the itinerary you choose.

What are the must-visit places around the tent city?

Apart from the mesmerising White Rann, here are some of the iconic places to explore in and around the tent city: Kalo Dungar (Black Hill): Known as the highest point in Kutch, Kalo Dungar provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Rann. The hill is also home to the Dattatreya temple, which has a fascinating legend associated with it. Local Artisan Villages: Kutch is renowned for its rich tradition of handicrafts. Villages like Bhujodi, Nirona, and Ajrakhpur are hubs for traditional arts such as weaving, bell-making, and block printing. Visitors can interact with artisans, witness the making of these crafts, and even purchase them as souvenirs. Visits to Bhujodi and Gandhi nu Gam are included in our package. Mandvi Beach: Located approximately 2 hours away from the tent city, Mandvi Beach is a serene coastal area known for its clean sands and clear waters. The beach is perfect for a relaxing evening, and visitors can indulge in camel rides or simply enjoy the sunset. Vijay Vilas Palace: Situated near Mandvi Beach, this palace stands as a testament to the royal lineage of Kutch. With its beautiful architecture, well-maintained gardens, and a private beach, the palace offers a glimpse into the regal lifestyle of yesteryears. It has also been a shooting location for several Bollywood films. Dholavira: An ancient Indus Valley Civilization site, Dholavira offers insights into one of the world's oldest urban centres. Located on the Khadir island of Kutch, the archaeological ruins encompass reservoirs, step wells, and ancient scripts, providing a deep dive into the region's historical significance. Smriti Van: A unique earthquake memorial located near Bhuj, Smriti Van pays tribute to the lives lost in the devastating 2001 earthquake. The park is dotted with plaques and installations, each telling a story of resilience and hope in the aftermath of the tragedy. Shri Shyamji Krishna Memorial: It is a memorial dedicated to Shri Shyamji Krishna Varma from London, who built India House, a hideout for Indian freedom fighters in London. Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all tents and common areas.

What kind of food is served at the Rann Utsav?

Rann Utsav-The Tent City serves a mix of local Kutchi cuisine and other popular Indian dishes. There are also options for continental and Jain food.

Are there any dining restrictions due to cultural or religious events?

While we respect all cultural and religious observances, our diverse menu is designed to cater to a Vegetarian audience throughout the festival.

What meals are included in the Rann Utsav Package?

Lunch, High Tea, Dinner, and Breakfast are included in all our packages.

Are there opportunities to purchase local handicrafts?

Certainly yes. There are numerous stalls showcasing and selling the rich handicrafts of Kutch. There is a separate section of Live Demonstration as well which showcases ‘Live Demo’ of different types of vibrant Kutchi Handicrafts.

Are there any adventure activities available?

Yes, we offer different types of adventure activities like Rope Course, Rock Climbing, Pendulum Swing, Rappelling, Zipline, and paramotoring for adventure enthusiasts. These activities are available on a chargeable basis at Rann Utsav - The Tent City only.

Health and Wellness

Is there a medical facility or doctor available on-site?

Rann Utsav-The Tent City has a first aid centre and a doctor-on-call for any emergencies.

Are there spa or wellness facilities in Rann Utsav-The Tent City?

Yes, we offer rejuvenation services where guests can indulge in traditional Indian wellness treatments. It is not a part of any package though.

Environmental Concerns

What measures are taken to ensure the event is eco-friendly?

We follow sustainable practices, including waste management, and water conservation. The entire tent city is built temporarily.

How does Rann Utsav contribute to the local community?

A significant portion of the festival involves the local community, from employment opportunities to showcasing and selling their crafts, ensuring the benefits of tourism are shared.

Are there any discounts for early bird bookings?

There is no special discount like early bird but we offer Fun on The Rann Sale for 3 days when we open the Rann Utsav bookings. The sale offers a flat 25% off on any package and any dates excluding the blackout dates. The offer is there for selected 3 days only.

What is the typical weather/temperature like during the Rann Utsav?

The festival is held during the months of winter. Days are generally warm and sunny with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C, while nights can be cold, with temperatures dropping to 10°C or lower.

Packing Tips for Rann Utsav

What essential items should I pack for the Rann Utsav?

You should pack comfortable clothing, both light for daytime and warm for nighttime, sturdy shoes, personal medications, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat or scarf, a camera, and a power bank.

I'm travelling with my elderly parents. What special items should I pack for them?

For elderly visitors, it's advisable to pack extra medications, a light blanket or shawl for sudden temperature drops, comfortable footwear, and perhaps a walking stick if they need assistance with mobility.

We're bringing our toddler. Any specific packing tips?

For toddlers and young children, pack essentials like baby food, diapers, a baby carrier or stroller, extra clothing, and toys or books to keep them engaged. Also, consider bringing a hat and sunscreen to protect their sensitive skin. We provide milk to them if required.

How should I pack for the cold desert nights?

Layering is key. Pack thermal innerwear, sweaters, jackets, and perhaps even a cap or beanie. Warm socks and gloves might also be a good idea, especially if you plan to be out late in the evening.

Is there any specific footwear that's recommended for the desert terrain?

Sturdy, comfortable shoes or sandals are ideal.

I'm planning to capture the beauty of Rann Utsav on camera. Any packing tips?

Carry extra batteries or a power bank, as the cold can drain battery life faster. Lens protectors or covers can help protect against the fine desert sand. A tripod can be useful for night photography, especially with the beautiful moonlit desert.

Should I pack any specific skin care or healthcare items due to the desert climate?

Considering the dry desert air, moisturising lotion, lip balm, and hydrating face mists can be beneficial. Also, a basic first-aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers should come in handy.

I have allergies. Should I carry any specific items?

Yes, if you have known allergies, especially to dust, it's advisable to carry antihistamines or any prescribed medications. Also, a face mask can help in case of strong winds carrying desert sand.

Is there anything else I should pack considering the desert's reflective terrain?

The white salt desert can be highly reflective, amplifying the sun's rays. Polarised sunglasses can help reduce glare during the daytime.

I want to celebrate my special day at Rann Utsav. Are there any special offerings for us?

Yes, We offer various celebration packages for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. We also provide the facility to enjoy a jamming session with a bonfire. All these packages are available on a chargeable basis and subject to availability.

What are the special celebrations at Rann Utsav?

Festivals like Diwali, Christmas, New Year, Uttarayan, Republic Day, and Valentine’s Day are celebrated at Rann Utsav. There are special packages for Valentine’s Day celebrations which can be opted by paying an additional amount.

What are the special days at Rann Utsav?

All days are very special at Rann Utsav as the mesmerising White Rann phenomenon lasts for a limited duration of a year. However, you can enjoy the Full Moon and Dark Moon nights especially. Dark Moon has its own beauty which is lesser known.

What is special about the Dark Moon at Rann Utsav?

As the beautiful White Rann is one of India’s Top 10 Darkest Places, you will get the opportunity to explore the sky with your naked eye. We plan a special visit to Hodko to explore the Sky. If you are an Astro-photography enthusiast, then visiting Rann Utsav during the dark moon night is highly recommended for you as you will be able to click the zillion stars.

Is alcohol allowed at Rann Utsav?

No, alcohol is not allowed at Rann Utsav as Gujarat is a Dry State.

Is Rann Utsav-The Tent City Pet friendly?

No, as it is a temporarily built structure. Pets are not allowed.
